Position Overview

The GEAR UP Program is seeking Academic Tutors to work with students at Highland Park High School in Topeka, KS (USD501). Tutors will work with students in core academic areas during the school day, and/or after school with Highland Park Academy. Work is temporary and the position is not eligible for benefits. The successful applicant will have the ability to work with minimum supervision and must have a strong background in one or more of the following high school subjects: Mathematics (Algebra I), Science, Social Studies and English Language Arts.

Hours will vary based upon need, but up to 10 hours per week, during school hours and after school.

Job Description

100% - Tutoring, providing academic and homework assistance.

Required Qualifications

  1. Ability and willingness to commute to Topeka
  2. Experience working with students in an academic or mentoring capacity
  3. Exemplary written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by the application materials and interview

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Work-study eligible college students
  2. Education major, or certified teacher
  3. Willingness to attend & chaperone 5-day residential camp during the summer
