Position Overview

The Assistant Manager (AM) will assist the Assistant Director of Theatre in all activities related to the University Theatre Box Office and Front of House.

Job Description

The Assistant Manager will assist in the hiring, training, and management of undergraduate student employees; operation and management of the computerized ticketing system; creation and tracking of deposits; tracking sales and producing reports; managing group sales. Insures high quality of customer service to all patrons purchasing tickets. Supervises the execution of procedures to insure the safety and comfort of all patrons and audience members; recruiting and managing volunteers. In the absence of the Assistant Director of Theatre, the AM will supervise all front-of-house duties during performances presented by the Department of Theatre & Dance/University Theatre. Additional duties will be assigned by the Assistant Director of Theatre.

Required Qualifications

  1. Strong verbal and written communication skills as evidenced in application material
  2. Experience using Microsoft Office (Word and EXCEL)
  3. Graduate student in a graduate program at KU
  4. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

  1. Supervisory Experience
  2. Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
  3. Must be punctual and reliable
  4. Strong customer service skills
  5. Interest/experience in theatre or other performing arts
  6. Federal Work Study eligible preferred
