Position Overview

The University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, is seeking candidates for a full-time faculty clinical-track position housed on the Lawrence, Kansas campus. The position is a 12-month full-time, clinical-track position at the assistant or associate clinical professor level. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Pharmacy Law with some involvement and additional teaching in other coursework dependent on their interests and departmental needs.

Preferred candidates will have a PharmD, healthcare, and/or Law degree(s) with excellent knowledge of, and/or teaching experience with, Pharmacy Law or Healthcare Law. Attendance at Kansas State Board of Pharmacy meetings and interaction with the Board is expected.

Job Description

60% Teaching: The position will be responsible for the coordination and instruction of didactic courses in the Pharmacy School curriculum for the Pharm.D. program. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Law, with additional teaching or involvement in other coursework within the Department of Pharmacy Practice, depending on the background of the candidate.

20% Service: The position will support the Profession, University, School of Pharmacy, and Department through their involvement and leadership roles with various committees and organizations. This may include, but is not limited to, serving and chairing University, School of Pharmacy and Department committees, holding elected positions in professional organizations, and serving on local, state and national professional organization committees. Other responsibilities may involve serving as an adviser for pharmacy student organizations within the School and refereeing for journals, professional association meeting materials, and/or granting agencies. Lastly, clinical track positions shall serve their communities as a valued health care professional and citizen by providing community education and professional lectures.

20% Scholarship: Research and scholarly activity is expected of the position; however, this is not the primary focus of Clinical Track positions. Examples of scholarship include, but are not limited to, the publication of articles, abstracts and textbook chapters; presentations at local, state and national professional meetings; and invited lectures or presentations. The position is expected to conduct practice-based scholarly activity and generate funding as needed to support research. This support may be obtained via practice plan, direct grant or contract support for research projects conducted by the position and practice site.

Required Qualifications

  1. A terminal degree in Pharmacy, Law, or another healthcare-related field (Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE accredited school or for pre-2000 graduates, a BS in Pharmacy degree is considered terminal; for Law, a JD degree).
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach professional students as evidenced by past experience in developing presentations and/or previous teaching experience, and demonstrated ability to plan and present a topic during the interview process.
  3. For those applying at the associate clinical professor level: A strong documented record of teaching, leadership, research, and service accomplishments consistent with the standards for promotion to Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Kansas.
  4. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position. Pharmacist applicants without a Law degree or previous experience teaching Pharmacy Law must be a licensed Pharmacist in the State of Kansas or must become licensed within 90 days of their start date.
