Position Overview

The receptionist position is the first point of contact for the EECS department. This position requires various skills and includes a range of duties. Multi-tasking is key. Assistance to faculty and staff as well as guidance to students during the office hours of 8:00a to 4:30p.

Job Description

Greets walk-in guests and students. Provides basic information regarding departmental programs, and building facilities. Answers phone and directs caller to appropriate person.

Photocopying, filing, completing data entry as assigned by staff or faculty. Sorts and distributes mail. Special project assignments.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED. Please see below:
  • Have general knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as evidenced in application materials
  • Not seeking a degree within the School of Engineering
  • Current KU student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours
  • Available to work 10-20 hours per week
**During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Available to work over the lunch hour, particularly 11:00a to 1:00p.
  • Receptionist experience, as evidenced in application materials.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task.
  • Proven dependability through previous work experience.
  • Available to work during summer semester.
