Position Overview

The Retention Technologies Analyst will work to support the Office of Undergraduate Studies Retention Technology Coordinator with the ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and support of the retention technologies (e.g. Starfish Early Alert and EAB). This role will assist with research, design, and implementation of these technologies. The person in this position will be expected to exercise discretion and professional judgment while working both independently and collaboratively. They will be expected to engage with academic advising leadership, advising system users, and other campus partners to identify user needs. The position requires first-hand experience in a college or university academic advising office or basic knowledge of student information systems functionality. Strong attention to detail as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. This position reports to the Retention Technologies Coordinator in Undergraduate Studies.

Job Description

60% Assist Retention Technologies Coordinator and Undergraduate Studies with the ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and support of the retention technologies, including but not limited to functional set up required for use, testing of set up, and trouble shooting. Participate in collaborative efforts with university representatives and partners (e.g. Undergraduate Advising Center, Student Information Systems, Information Technology) to understand user needs and recommend functionality and processes to maximize technology usage. Assist with user training, trouble shooting, and support. May be asked to join meetings with the vendors for ongoing trainings, regular updates, technical issues, and others needs as required.

30% Research best practices with peer intuitions to examine identify effective ways to implement retention technology needs. Assist with website management, user access, email distribution list maintenance, documentation, and other support in preparation for post-implementation.

10% Support Retention Technologies Coordinator and Undergraduate Studies with other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of relevant experience or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience;
  2. Experience working in a college or university academic advising office, student information systems office or similar support office;
  3. Demonstrated experience with relevant computerized student information and advising systems.
  4. Demonstrated detail oriented skills with an understanding of the organizational needs as a whole;
  5. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills as evident by application materials and previous work experience;
  6. Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with faculty, campus officials, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds; and
  7. Experience with Excel, Access, or other database and spreadsheet software.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Completion of a graduate degree program;
  2. Previous experience working with retention initiatives at a college or university (i.e. retention technologies, scholarship programs, academic advising);
  3. Experience in higher education programs serving diverse students;
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with initiative;
  5. Experience generating charts, graphs, and reports for analysis of statistical data;
  6. A flexible person with strong interpersonal and communication skills who is able to work effectively and cooperatively as part of a team as well as independently;
  7. At least two years of experience with visual graphics software; and
  8. At least two years of demonstrated experience and involvement in large projects, as evidenced in application materials.
