Position Overview

The University of Kansas, Enterprise Systems group is seeking a Microsoft Systems Engineer to assist in the implementation and operation of critical systems supporting campus operations. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to develop new skills, solve problems and strives to find the best way to provide service. Team Overview:
The mission of the Enterprise Systems team is to provide operational oversight to the enterprise systems supporting the goals of the University. This includes base system support as well as enterprise applications including Active Directory, Skype for Business and Microsoft Exchange. The team fosters a dynamic and creative environment which is currently focused on designing the next generation of data center operations at the University.

Job Description

60% - Technical administration of servers running Microsoft Windows and Applications.
  • Installation and operational management of Microsoft operating systems
  • Installation and operational management of Microsoft enterprise applications
  • Design and develop solutions for projects requiring IT enterprise services
  • Proactive and emergency maintenance
  • Capacity planning and performance monitoring
30% - Technical administration of University cloud computing environments.
  • Assist in the administration of Office365
  • Assist in the implementation and operation of systems utilizing cloud computing environments.
  • Implementation of orchestration and automation to streamline operations
  • Capacity planning and performance monitoring
10% - Other:
  • Other duties as assigned
Security Responsibilities:
  • This position shares in responsibility for information security by following all applicable security policies and procedures.
  • This position is authorized to use elevated privilege accounts in the performance of job duties.
  • This position is authorized to issue password resets in accordance with established procedure in the performance of job duties.
  • This position is authorized to handle sensitive or confidential data in accordance with established procedures in the performance of job duties.
  • This position is authorized to provision and deprovision user accounts and access in accordance with established procedures in the performance of job duties.
  • This position is authorized to manage, provision, and deprovision IT assets in accordance with established procedures in the performance of job duties.

Required Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma/GED and five years of relevant professional experience OR an Associate’s degree and three years of relevant professional experience OR a Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant professional experience.
  2. Experience in writing PowerShell scripts.
  3. Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
  4. Experience working in a collaborative team environment of two (2) or more people.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. At least five (5) years of work experience administrating networked Windows Server operating systems in a large academic or corporate IT environment demonstrating high levels of responsibility and complexity.
  2. At least one (1) year of experience managing an enterprise Active Directory Environment.
  3. At least one (1) year of experience of working with Microsoft Exchange Servers.
  4. At least one (1) year of experience of working with Skype for Business Servers.
  5. At least one (1) year working with VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization environments.
  6. Ability to work independently on complex issues/projects.

Note: This position requires participation in a rotating on-call.
