Position Overview

Talent Search is a TRIO college access funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Through early intervention, this program is designed to encourage participants to remain in school, graduate from high school, and to pursue post-secondary education. Talent Search works with youth of Wyandotte County. Program participants are generally from low-income families and are first-generation college going students. The Summer Program Photographer will take professional photos of the interactions during the camp of students and staff, activities, etc. Pictures will be used for social media, as well for the slide show at the end of the week’s Celebration Luncheon. Program participants will be 6th grade students who are participating in an intensive, fast-paced Career Horizons Summer Camp on KU’s campus. Photographer will be part of a team of dynamic and highly motivated summer staff. Photographer will also assist in the supervision of youth in group settings and group activities, serve as a positive role model for middle school students and provide guidance to students in areas of career access and STEM. (Time commitment: Career Horizons - June 13th – 15th- training full days; June 18 – 23rd camp full days, additional prep work before, during and after each day required; A successful candidate will be committed to the ideals of TRIO, have high integrity, considered to be responsible and timely, can follow directions efficiently and have a willingness to learn, maintain positive stamina, and can effectively connect with young students to increase their motivation and excitement about college, careers, and STEM –related fields.

Job Description

60% Serve as the program photographer for the Career Horizons Summer Program, taking pictures, posting on social media, and assisting in the preparation of the end of the week Celebration Slide Show.

15% Assist with the supervision of students as well as assist by mentoring, interacting, and engaging with participants in group settings and group activities.

15% Serve as a positive role model for 6th/7th grade students, participate in all summer program activities, and provide guidance to students in areas of college access, career exploration, STEM and recreational activities.

5% Participate in staff training and all staff meetings.

5% Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of TRIO Talent Search.

Required Qualifications

1. Undergraduate or graduate student status or degree earned as evidenced by the application materials
2. Photography Background
3. Demonstrated excellent written communication, as evidence through application materials
4. Minimum 2 weeks of work experience with youth

Preferred Qualifications

1. Major or degree in photography
2. Previous TRIO Experience/TRIO Alum
