Position Overview

The Jayhawk Media Workshop (JMW), formerly known as the Kansas Journalism Institute, is looking for Student Resident Assistants for the 55th JMW, scheduled for June 10-14, 2018, at the University of Kansas.

Job Description

Student Resident Assistants will perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to, help running registration, leading campus tours, supervising campers and helping JMW teachers with instruction, and helping students with homework. Student resident assistants will also participate in fun activities, such as picnic dinner and games. Resident assistants will be on duty overnight and stay in the residence hall (GSP) with the JMW campers, working with the professional lead counselor and the director of JMW to ensure that all camp, KU, and residence hall rules are followed and that students make their way safely to and from classes.

Required Qualifications

  1. KU student must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours during the academic year. Enrollment of one credit hour during the summer session is required if the student was not enrolled the previous spring or is not pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall term.
  2. Journalism major or experience/involvement with KU student media.
  3. Availability from Sunday June 10, 2018 through Thursday, June 14, 2018.
  4. Must be 18 years of age or older by the time of appointment.
  5. Must successfully complete a criminal background check prior to beginning work.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prior experience working with youth.

Advertised Salary Range

Minimum $250 for the duration of the camp. In addition, meals and housing are provided during camp.
