Position Overview

A laboratory research aide position is available in the lab of Dr. Zijun Wang (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=0_V7QroAAAAJ&hl=en) at the University of Kansas. The successful candidate will employ behavioral, biochemical, histochemical, and imaging approaches to study the impact of early life adversity on addictive and social behaviors using mouse models.

The Wang lab uses multidisciplinary approaches incorporating behaviors, pharmacology, molecular biology, confocal-imaging, electrophysiology, virus-mediated gene transfer, bioinformatics, circuit mapping, chemogenetics and transgenic mice tools to explore the pathophysiological basis underlying drug addiction and autism, and to discover novel therapeutic targets for these brain disorders. The department of Pharmacology and Toxicology has research strengths in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease, social behavior and cognition, control of energy, metabolism, and the effects of diabetes on the nervous system. The School of Pharmacy ranks #7 nationally in NIH funding.

This position may be structured as either .50 FTE or 1.0 FTE per the needs and preference of the successful candidate.

Job Description

70% - Perform experiments independently using established guidelines. This includes but not limited to performing research activities, such as mouse behavioral experiments, mouse surgeries, biochemical experiments, histology, animal care assistance, and imaging.

15% - Analyze data obtained in the experiments using custom written and commercially available software.

10% - Keep detailed laboratory records of the findings, prepare figures of the data in Canvas or Graph pad, perform statistics using Graph pad, and present the data in lab meetings.

5% - Perform other assigned duties, such as equipment setup, maintenance and inventory maintenance.

Required Qualifications

1. High School diploma.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelors degree or higher in Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology or a related field.
2. Prior animal research experience.
