Position Overview

The Office of Institutional Research and Planning (OIRP) seeks a research analyst to provide analytical support to university management in a variety of subject areas. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to effectively work both collaboratively and independently. The Office of Institutional Research and Planning, a staff office which reports to the Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor, is dedicated to meeting the data, information, analytical and planning needs of the Lawrence Campus and the central administration of the University of Kansas. Job Description

40% - University Decision Support
  • Assists in the preparation of quantitative and qualitative studies across a spectrum of areas (e.g., enrollment, financial reporting, salary studies, etc.) including design, data validation, and performing tests of reasonableness.
  • Utilizes multiple technology applications including data visualization tools to collect and/or analyze data and to prepare/present results.
  • Assists with the development of web-based analytical applications and other projects as needed.
20% - External Reporting
  • Prepares data submissions for the federal government, the Kansas Board of Regents, external surveys, and others.
10% - Survey Research
  • Assists with the design and analysis of survey research.
10% - Comparative metrics
  • Assists with the preparation of analyses of comparative metrics for KU and other AAU and Big 12 universities.
10% - Administrative
  • Provides staff support for departmental staff, departmental leadership, and university committees.
10% - Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Established computing and statistical skills using standard workplace productivity software for word processing, spreadsheet analyses, databases, statistical analyses, graphics, etc.
  3. Work experience that required effectively managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  4. Previous experience working independently and collaboratively in a variety of situations.
  5. Previous work experience that required attention to detail.
  6. Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Minimum of one year’s professional experience in a higher education setting.
  2. Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau.
  3. Experience programming and conducting analyses using SAS software and/or SQL.
  4. Familiarity with administrative structure, policies, and procedures at the University of Kansas.
  5. Strong verbal communication skills as demonstrated during the interview process.
