Position Overview

KU-CPPR is seeking a qualified Research Informatics Analyst to join our team and be a part of our data science and technology efforts. Are you security conscious, detail oriented, willing to ask questions to get to the right solution, and able to critically think about application, server, and data security risks? Can you readily pick up new technical skills, adapt to changing needs, and identify and implement proven or novel solutions? We need someone who can review and process complex settings and make the right connections between the technical aspects of our applications and IT infrastructure and the kind of information we analyze, create, and publish for our partners.

This position will manage our Tableau Server Application, coordinate and carry out Tableau Report publishing across our portfolio of initiatives, and provide technical administrative and informatics support for our other internal applications and data projects. CPPR specializes in research and evaluation, data science projects, and social innovation work that supports our mission to optimize the well-being of children, youth, and families. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about impacting social change for good through data and technology. The person in this position must be a critical go-between with internal and external partners to coordinate work, exercise judgment in identifying and developing solutions, and ensure we provide secure and monitored access to data on behalf of our partners.

Job Description

30% - Tableau Server Administration
Under general supervision, manage all technical aspects of CPPR's Tableau Server administration and maintenance, including:
  • Work with internal and external teams to coordinate and manage all serve application components
  • Test, troubleshoot, code, and perform technical work required to implement solutions, including creating projects in Tableau, setting up and managing user and filter permissions, managing data transfer and refresh, identifying defects or risks, and analyzing usage and performance, identify process changes
  • Conduct needs assessments and requirements gathering, perform data mapping, user experience design, application architecture, software and/or network installation and configuration, quality assurance, and deployment for web applications or systems
  • Configure site access and keep records of all access, changes, and configurations
  • Manage all Tableau desktop licenses and staff usage
  • Coordinate technical assistance with Tableau and internal/external teams
  • Work with teams, gather requirements, and implement new reports and solutions
  • Develop server monitoring process and protocols related to best practices and security policies
30% - Tableau Report Publishing and Monitoring
Under general supervision, design and carry out best-practice procedures for publishing data sources, codes, filters, and dashboard designs in Tableau:
  • Understand and apply all required procedures and protocols to publish using Tableau
  • Create and maintain an organizational tracking process of Tableau Server sites, projects, and groups
  • Identify and propose data security risk mitigation efforts ahead of time or as found
  • Develop and carry out best practices for checking content and permissions on Tableau Server
  • Understand and translate application user hierarchy and connections with Tableau user group as required by initiatives
35% - R Studio Connect Administration and R Coding
Under general supervision, manage all technical aspects of administering CPPR's R Studio Connect account, R codes, and dashboard peripheral applications:
  • Work with internal team to coordinate the technical aspects of R Studio Connect application, code creation or changes, and dashboard accounts
  • Test, troubleshoot, code, and perform technical work required to update data sources, implement new solutions, or identify and mitigate security risks
  • Conduct needs assessments and requirements gathering, perform data mapping, user experience design, application architecture, software and/or network installation and configuration, quality assurance, and deployment for web applications or systems
  • Work with internal teams to identify and implement application and code changes to support analytics roadmap and user experience
  • Create and apply codes permissions, or credentials needed to effectively support administration of R Studio
  • Connect application with data source and dashboard components
  • Provide consultation and recommendations to technical, analytic, and implementation teams on changes, maintenance, and necessary improvements to the management and integration of applications, data sources, and we services
5% - Other Duties as assigned



Required Qualifications

1. High school/GED and 3 years related experience OR Associate’s degree with 2 years related experience OR Bachelor’s degree in related field
2. Technical experience in information technology, application management/development, or system administration as demonstrated in application materials and work experience
3. Experience working with internal and external teams on technical solutions or applications as demonstrated in application materials and work experience
4. Clear communication skills as demonstrated by application materials
5. Attention to detail and accuracy as demonstrated by application materials

Preferred Qualifications

1. Two or more years of experience administering or developing web-based applications and web-services, as demonstrated by application materials
2. Two or more years of experience using R language to develop data sources or analytic codes, as demonstrated by application materials
3. Experience with Tableau, R-Studio, or R-Shiny, as demonstrated by application materials
4. Experience working on social science or research-related projects or teams, as demonstrated by application materials
5. Experience supervising others to develop skills and carry out tasks, as demonstrated by application materials
