Position Overview

ATLAS, a research center at the University of Kansas, is seeking a research project manager to lead a variety of projects and initiatives on the learning map model development team. The team is comprised of researchers from diverse academic domains. A primary project within ATLAS using learning map models is the Dynamic Learning Maps Alternate Assessment System, which delivers online, map- based assessments in multiple states in English language arts, mathematics and science. The research project manager will report the ATLAS associate director, lead projects related to using learning map models for a variety of purposes and audiences, work collaboratively with researchers on the team, and manage the coordination of map team activities for projects across the center. A successful applicant should have experience in project management, and with the development of formal learning models in academic disciplines. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), unclassified position at the Lawrence campus, with occasional off-site meetings.

Job Description

60% - Lead projects on the ATLAS maps team. Activities include oversight of multiple map-related research and development projects including planning, day-to-day operations, technical assistance, development of technical documentation, and refinement of development processes and products. Collaborate on center-level, cross-team workflow management initiatives.

20% - Supervise graduate research assistants and research project coordinators on the maps team.

15% - Collaborate with test development, psychometric, technology, and implementation teams on projects related to learning map models. Activities include providing formal and informal feedback on project plans, planning for resource allocation, and serving as an internal expert consultant for designing high quality educational tools.

5% - Communicate with external audiences including researchers, state education agency staff, and professional organizations.

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in education or psychology and 1 year of professional experience in related field or bachelor’s degree in education or psychology and 4 years of professional experience in related field.
  2. At least 1 year of experience working in a multidisciplinary, team-based environment as evidenced by work history, professional training or a combination of both.
  3. At least 1 year of experience leading complex projects.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills for scholarly and practitioner audiences as evidenced by application materials and interview.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience supervising research staff.
  2. Experience with project management initiatives designed to increase efficiency of research and development projects and cross-team collaboration.
  3. Professional experience developing formal learning models including panel evaluation procedures and technical documentation.
  4. Record of published research on a topic related to developing or evaluating formal models of learning.
