Position Overview

ATLAS, a research center at the University of Kansas, is seeking a research project manager to lead a variety of projects and initiatives supporting the Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) on the test development team. The team is comprised of assessment development professionals specializing in the academic domains: Mathematics, English language arts, science and English language proficiency. ATLAS delivers a suite of high-quality online assessments throughout the state of Kansas as well as Dynamic Learning Maps assessments in more than 20 states. The research project manager will report the ATLAS assistant director of test development, lead projects related to building a sustainable workflow to support a high-volume, robust item bank, work collaboratively with assessment developers on the team, and manage the coordination of KAP team activities for projects across the center. A successful applicant should have experience in project management, and expertise in systems and workflow management. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), unclassified position at the Lawrence campus, with occasional off-site meetings.

Job Description

60% - Lead projects on the ATLAS KAP test development team. Activities include oversight of multiple workflow and development projects including planning, day-to-day operations, technical assistance, development of technical and process documentation, and refinement of development processes and products. Collaborate on center-level, cross-team workflow management initiatives.

20% - Supervise research project coordinators on the KAP test development team, maintain awareness of activities on other test development teams to ensure cross-team support from project coordinators.

15% - Collaborate with test development, psychometric, technology, and implementation teams on projects related to KAP test development. Activities include providing formal and informal feedback on project plans, planning for resource allocation, and serving as an internal expert consultant for designing high quality educational tools.

5% - Communicate with external audiences including researchers, state education agency staff, and professional organizations.

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in education, psychology, project management or related field and 1 year of professional experience in related field or bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, project management or related field and 4 years of professional experience in related field
  2. At least 1 year of experience working in a multidisciplinary, team-based environment as evidenced by work history, professional training or a combination of both
  3. At least 1 year of experience leading complex projects
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials and interview

Preferred Qualifications

  1. PMP certification
  2. Experience supervising project management staff
  3. Experience with project management initiatives designed to increase efficiency of research and development projects and cross team collaboration
  4. Professional experience developing processes including panel evaluation procedures and technical documentation
