Position Overview

Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS), is responsible for investigating and resolving alleged violations of the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities (specifically, non-academic misconduct) and educating members of the university community about community standards and values. The Graduate Assistant will be an active member of the SCCS team and must possess the highest level of integrity and confidentiality due to the nature of the work generated in the office.

Job Description

  • Serve as conduct hearing officer for students who are alleged to have violated the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. Conduct one-on-one hearings and assign sanctions (if applicable) to resolve misconduct.
  • Track the completion of sanctions and maintain student conduct records using online database, Maxient.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of departmental programs (i.e. prevention campaigns, educational workshops, etc.)
  • Collaborate with SCCS staff to develop additional conflict resolution options
  • Support student wellness through referrals to resources, programs for assistance, etc.
  • Participate in outreach to faculty, staff and students on the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Facilitate Hawk Habits, a sanctioned workshop to guide student ethical decision making.
  • Assisting with general office duties as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. KU graduate student in good academic standing enrolled for the 2022-2023 academic year in the Higher Education (Student Affairs), Counseling Psychology, Social Welfare, Public Administration, Journalism, & Education/Human Sciences masters/doctoral degree program or KU Law School.
  2. Enrollment in at least 6 hours each Fall/Spring, or doctoral students enrolled in required dissertation hours.
  3. Work history showing the handling confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated ability to organize information, schedule activities, and work independently.
  2. Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty.
  4. Comfortable learning new technology skills.

Additional Candidate Instructions

Appointment: 50% (20 hours per week)
Length of Appointment: August 2022 through May 2023. Multiple year employment may be negotiated but is not automatic. Two year commitment preferred.
Salary: $15/hr
Benefits: GA will receive 3 hours of tuition coverage each Fall/Spring semester and qualifies for in-state tuition rates for all courses. This position also qualifies for optional health insurance with a 75% subsidy towards premiums.
