Position Overview

Seeking a student with a passion for communications for the position of Digital Media Assistant for the departments of Geography & Atmospheric Science, Geology, and the Environmental Studies Program. The assistant will provide communications and marketing support to the Communications Specialist in one or more of the following areas: graphic design, social media, and/or website updates.

Job Description

The Digital Media Assistant will aid the Lindley Hall Welcome Center Communications Specialist in promoting events, programs, and other information. Dependent upon skills, the assistant may design flyers and digital graphics, help create content for social media, or update website content. They may also do take some photographs and do basic maintenance including distributing flyers and filing physical and digital assets.

Required Qualifications

  1. Skill in at least one area: graphic design, social media, and/or CMS website management
  2. Strong organization skills
  3. Attention to detail
  4. Dependent upon track, skills in the following are required:
    Graphic Design: Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator
    Social Media: Experience with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
    Web Design: Experience with CMS such as WordPress, Drupal, or similar
  5. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Enrollment in either the School of Journalism, School of the Arts (SP), or an English major
  2. Creative thinker
  3. Self-disciplined
  4. Experience with social media graphics
  5. Interest in earth sciences is a plus

  • 3 websites you have worked on, with links to each and a brief explanation of your work with the sites.
