Position Overview

The School of Engineering hosts a number of K-12 outreach activities, including weekend activities and summer camps. The Outreach & Camp Assistant will assist in organizing and overseeing Sparkology Engineering & Computing outreach events and provide administrative support for Summer Camps. Sparkology events are performed by engineering student organizations and are generally held on Saturday mornings from 10am-12pm. The Outreach & Camp Assistant must be available most Saturday mornings during the school year from approximately 9am-1pm to be present at these events.

Job Description

Job duties may include (but are not limited to):
  • Assist in marketing, selecting, scheduling, and purchasing supplies for outreach activities
  • Market events to parents, students, and teachers through social media and email
  • Oversee student registration and communication with parents
  • Compile financial documentation for purchases and funding
  • Perform event evaluations
  • Check students in and out of weekend events

Required Qualifications

  1. Have a valid driver’s license.
  2. Available to work 5-10 hours per week.
  3. Available most Saturday’s during the school year from 9am-1pm.
**During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated interest or experience in K-12 STEM education.
  2. Experience working with children in schools, camp, or other settings.
  3. A student in good standing within the School of Engineering or School of Education.
