Position Overview

This position will work on a statewide professional development and technical assistance project in the area of childcare and early education focusing on individuals and programs serving infant and toddlers. This person will join a cadre of staff and have responsibility for project activities related to development of training with emphasis on the provision of technical assistance. This person will serve as a trainer/technical assistance provider with responsibility for analysis of needs assessment data and identification of technical assistance needs; development and provision of training and technical assistance activities; development of strategies, content, delivery of highly specialized and focused technical assistance, and development and delivery of information in modularized and on online learner managed systems. Additional responsibilities include development of, contributions to, and the dissemination of materials specific to evidence-based practices in childcare and early education.

Expertise of individuals will be balanced across factors and knowledge in specialized content areas. Examples include: disabilities, language development/communication, literacy, physical health/development and movement. Geographic location may be considered, as the project will have staff in the Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita areas with others strategically located.

Instate travel will be required with possible out of state travel related to attendance at educational events for personal skill and professional development. Staff may be required to attend meetings to represent the project. This full-time employee receives full benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, and holidays. This position is not subject to tenure or sabbatical leave.

Job Description

75% - Provide training and technical assistance based on analysis of needs assessment of specific individuals, programs and professionals in the field of early childhood care and education – specifically those serving infant/toddlers and their families. Training will take a variety of forms including one to one coaching/mentoring, small group training and large group training. Technical assistance will include the development of written and highly specialized TA plans based on the need of the individuals and program requiring assistance. Plans will include objectives or outcomes for the plan, needed resources to carry out the plan, timeline for the plan, and evaluation of the outcomes identified in the plan.

10% - Mentor/Coach responsibilities: provide support to project peers (other TA providers) related to specific area of advanced expertise and prepare, disseminate, and demonstrate materials and strategies for service provision to childcare and early education professionals.

10% - Collaborate with project staff in the development of online materials and course work to address needs of early care and education providers and supplement direct one-to-one contact.

2% - Analyze and synthesize needs assessment data to determine training and technical assistance needs followed by development of strategic strategies to address needs.

1% - Collaborate with funding agency in ongoing assessment of state needs, project achievement of outcomes, and collaboration with state professionals organizations, state level work committees, task force or ad hoc committees focused on needs of infant toddler early care and education providers.

1% - Collaborate with project staff to carryout public awareness programs of the project.

1% - Contribute to yearly project report to funding agency.

Required Qualifications

1) Master's in Specialized Area and focus in early childhood (e.g. early intervention/special education, language/literacy development, infant mental health – social/emotional development, social work focused on unserved or underserved populations).
2) Minimum of two years’ experience in development of written materials (e.g. technical assistance plans, individual professional development plans) as evidenced in application materials.
3) Minimum of two years experience in coaching other adults/professionals (e.g. mentor coaching, peer-to-peer coaching supervising) as evidenced in application materials.
4) Minimum of two years’ experience managing multiple tasks/projects as evidenced in application materials.
5) Minimum of three years’ experience with infants/toddlers as evidenced in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

1) Education Specialist or Doctorate in specialized area.
2) Documented successful teaching/in-service training and technical assistance experience with adult learners.
3) Minimum of four years experience working with infants/toddlers.
4) Documented working experience with electronic and online databases.
5) Documented experience with public speaking and/or online instruction (conference presentations, training workshops, teaching at an inservice or preservice level).
6) Documented experience working with specialized populations of infants/toddlers and their families or other specialized populations (e.g. disabilities, homeless, at risk).
