Job Description

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support program utilizing peer-led study sessions to enhance student performance in specific classes. Students can attend the sessions as often as they choose. The SI Leader will lead study sessions and hold office hours for one specific class.

Work Schedule:
  • Ability to work 8-10 hours per week.
  • Must attend class lectures and be familiar with all homework in the selected class.
  • Must lead 2 study sessions per week and hold 3 hours of office hours.
  • Must complete the required training prior to starting.
  • Must attend meetings during the semester to further SI training.
NOTE: Must work the full length of the Spring 2019 semester.

Required Qualifications

  1. Current University of Kansas undergraduate student enrolled in six or more credits at KU.
  2. An overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale).
  3. A grade of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) in the selected class is required.
  4. Ability to work 8-10 hours per week; must attend class lectures and must lead 2 study sessions per week and hold 3 hours of office hours.
  5. Strong written communication skills and attention to detail as demonstrated by application materials.
  6. Strong oral communication skills and interpersonal skills as demonstrated in the interview.
  7. Recommendation from the professor of the class in which the applicant is applying.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience leading small groups.
  2. Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook.
  3. A minimum of one-year experience providing academic support and/or tutoring to students.
