Job Description
80% Contract negotiating, Advisement & Legal Research
- Responsible for oversight for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts.
- Provides transactional advice and review of transactional matters arising from the operations of the University of Kansas and its controlled affiliates.
- Advises administrators, faculty, staff on federal and state laws and regulations as well as Regents and University policies and procedures applicable to the operations of the University.
- Conducts legal research as needed.
10% Compliance Monitoring
- Monitors University compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and assisting in formulating University policies and procedures involving legal issues.
10% Other duties as assigned
- Works with outside counsel.
- Serves on committees as needed.
- Attends conference as needed.
- Participates in professional development opportunities.
Position Requirements
- This position is hybrid. Incumbent works on-site and remote based on a set schedule.
- Occasional travel to other campus locations.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited American law school and membership in the Kansas bar or temporary Kansas license and Kansas bar admission within one year.
- Minimum of three (3) years active practice experience after bar admission.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials and interview process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing multiple, complex, time-sensitive assignments simultaneously with a high degree of organization and effectiveness.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Experience solving complex problems.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
- Experience with dispute resolution, contract litigation and/or providing advice on mitigating risks of contract litigation.

Advertised Salary Range
$100,000 - $130,000, final determination commensurate with experience
