Position Overview

The Zhao lab at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy (https://pharmtox.ku.edu/zhao-lab) is currently seeking a highly-motivated Assistant Researcher to work on projects that investigate the neurodegenerative mechanisms and therapeutic interventions of sporadic Alzheimer’s disease. The KU School of Pharmacy, located in the heart of the beautiful and historic Lawrence campus, offers an excellent research environment, and has been consecutively ranked nationally among the top 10 in NIH funding since 2001. Moreover, the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Center (ADC), one of only 33 NIA-designated and funded ADCs in the US, provides additional substantial resources for the pursuit of excellence in AD research and care.

Job Description

70% - Perform Research
  • Performs research activities both independently and under direction
  • Designs experiments employing techniques such as animal behavioral tests
  • Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments performed
  • Generates research reports for preparation of scientific publications or grant applications to funding organizations
30% - Laboratory Assistance
  • Assists in laboratory organization and record-keeping
  • Assists other members of the laboratory
  • Trains graduate and undergraduate students as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

1. B.S. in Biological Sciences or Biochemistry or a closely related field.
2. At least one year of research experience in a laboratory environment, as demonstrated by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Research experience in cell culture and rodent work.
2. Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a collaborative research effort.
