Position Overview

This is a full-time, 9-month, academic year, tenured appointment within the Analytics, Information Systems, and Operations Management (AIO) Area of the School of Business at the University of Kansas. The Area Director responsibilities include leading, administering, and coordinating activities within the area and representing the area to the School and University. The Area Director has decision making authority over the area budget, participates in faculty evaluations and salary decisions, is responsible for coordinating curricula and faculty development within the area, addresses area needs, pursues internal and external opportunities, and communicates area accomplishments, needs, and opportunities. The position includes summer administrative responsibilities that will provide summer salary.

Associate or Full Professor responsibilities include teaching two courses each year, mentoring junior faculty and students, and maintaining a limited research agenda. This position will report to the Dean and Executive Associate Dean.

Job Description

60% AIO Area Director
  • Manage the area budget.
  • Represent area interests within the School and University.
  • Plan and conduct hiring and development of faculty and staff.
  • Conduct faculty evaluations and determine merit adjustments with input from the research team, program directors, and dean’s office.
  • Coordinate curricular development and course scheduling.
  • Know accreditation standards and provide leadership in maintaining accreditation.
  • Actively participate on the administrative team with other area directors, program directors, and the deans.
  • Assist the Dean and KU Endowment in raising private funds to benefit the area.
  • Maintain, grow, and coordinate the area’s external advisory boards and connections with companies and other external organizations.
  • Engage in school, university and professional service activities.

20% Teaching
  • Teach two courses per year in an AIO discipline. Courses may be required or elective, undergraduate, graduate, and/or doctoral level.

20% Research
  • Mentor doctoral students and junior faculty in conducting research leading to publication in prestigious academic journals.
  • Conduct a limited program of research directed toward publications in prestigious academic journals.

For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor:
  1. A Ph.D. in a discipline directly related to AIO area (e.g., Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Decision Sciences, Operations Management).
  2. A record of achievement in teaching to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
  3. A record of achievement in research to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
For appointment at the rank of Full Professor:
  1. A Ph.D. in a discipline directly related to AIO area (e.g., Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Decision Sciences, Operations Management).
  2. Established record of achievement in teaching to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of Full Professor
  3. Established record of achievement in research to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
