Position Overview
The Center for Environmentally Beneficial Catalysis (CEBC) at the University of Kansas is hiring for a Business Manager. This position assists the Director in the strategic development and the daily operations of the Center. The individual selected for this role must possess excellent fiscal management, communication, and organizational skills and exercise good judgment to ensure that the Center operates smoothly.

Job Description
Financial Management: 55%
Grant Management: 35%
- Maintain independent center accounting, and reconcile with university accounts
- Accurate data compilation and preparation of financial reports
- Accurate budget preparation, expenditure analysis and forecasting
- Collaborate with the Shared Service Center on the processing of purchase requisitions, invoice payments, and credit card charges.
- Monitor travel requests and reimbursements processed by the SSC.
- Monitor Industry memberships and invoices for annual dues
- Management of procurement cards and vendor accounts
Grant Management: 35%
- Collaborate with Award Management Services on the oversight and management of sponsored research funds.
- Ensure expenditures and reimbursements conform to any specific requirements of the funding agency
- Prepare budget forecasts for faculty Principal Investigators upon request to support strategic decision making on awarded funds
- Track committed and actual cost sharing expenditures
- Maintain grant sub-accounts internally as required
- Track grant-specific deadlines or indicator data
- Coordinate grant reporting/communication with any grant subcontractors
- Serve as the primary point of contact between CEBC and KU Shared Service Centers and KUCR (Post-Award and Financial Services)
- Manage and supervise day-to-day office activities
- Archive and organize files and records
- Oversee maintenance agreements and schedule service for office and laboratory equipment
- Maintain inventory of office supplies and materials
- Assist with writing correspondence and reports
- Preparation of contractual service forms
- Assist with major Center events or other special projects as assigned
Position Requirements
This position is located on-site at the Lawrence, KS campus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and one year relevant office experience OR an Associate’s Degree and three years of office experience OR High School Diploma and four years of office experience.
- Experience with budgeting and accounting.
- Experience managing multiple projects and utilizing strong organizational skills.
- Experience working with computers, including MS Office programs.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, accounting, or related field.
- Experience using Oracle or similar enterprise software.
- Familiarity with Federal cost accounting and grant management rules.
- Experience working in university and/or research center environment.
