Position Overview

The Jayhawk Student One Stop (SOS) is committed to assuring that every student has the opportunity to be successful at the University of Kansas. The Jayhawk Student One Stop serves as a resource for undergraduate and graduate students who are experiencing unforeseen challenges that prevent their ability to persist in achieving academic goals at KU. Through collaboration with campus and community partners, the Jayhawk Student One Stop acts alongside students to navigate campus administrative processes and provide personalized solutions to each of their inquiries, within the university’s policy and resources.

Job Description

Responsibilities of the Case Manager include but are not limited to the following:

Case Management - 70%
  • Meets on-on-one with students in distress and provides guidance, advice and support
  • Coordinates interventions to locate resources for students in distress
  • Acts as a liaison between students and faculty/staff by identifying appropriate resolutions and alternatives to concerns
  • Maintains communication with various university and community offices on behalf of students in an effort to resolve issues satisfactorily
  • Provides clarification to students on university policies and procedures
  • Assists in implementation of student support initiatives on campus
  • Develops and promotes positive relations with university and community offices
Outreach, program development and assessment– 20%
  • Lead all first-generation student outreach initiatives
  • Develops and executes new programmatic initiatives for Jayhawk SOS in collaboration with campus and community partners
Other Duties as assigned – 10%
  • Assist with Jayhawk SOS overview presentations and tabling
  • Serve in a campus committee related to the advancement diversity and equity
  • Assists with special projects as determined by the director

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years of professional experience working in student support roles, or related experience in advising, counseling or social work
  • Previous programming experience
  • Familiarity with a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated communication, presentation and organization skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Welfare, Counseling, Community Health, Higher Education, or related disciplines
  • Previous experience in student support and case management
  • Willingness to support students in distress
  • Experience with grant/proposal writing
  • Experience working with first-generation college students
