Position Overview

The Center of Community Outreach overseas 13 programs that provide meaningful service opportunities for students, address various needs through collaborative partnerships, and empower our community through education and advocacy.

Job Description

The Events Director for the Center for Community Outreach will:
  • Maintain the CCO brand in conjunction with the Creative Director.
  • Distribute advertisements to promote the CCO and all of its programs and events.
  • Serve as the primary contact with local media including the University Daily Kansan, the Lawrence Journal World, KJHK radio station, and other news outlets.
  • Maintain and update the CCO website and social media sites in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Report Directly to the Executive Director and Managing Director.
  • Execute other tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
  • Communicate with on campus departments via email/speaking at events to promote upcoming program volunteering events
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  1. Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at KU.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous experience working with the Center for Community Outreach.
  2. Commitment to community outreach and service.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  4. Strong organization and time management skills.
  5. Previous experience with website management specifically with WordPress

1) Describe your experiences with community service. Elaborate specifically on your involvement with the CCO or other KU service organizations.
2) What is a specific goal that you have if selected as the Communications Director of the CCO? How will you implement that goal?
3) What particular skills or insights would you bring to the Communications Director position? Please specifically address your experience with promotional campaigns, social media, and event promotion (preferably in a volunteerism context).
4) Given your current demands, what strategies do you use to maintain a consistent work/school balance? Since this position requires work to be done during the summer and throughout the academic year, how will you structure your schedule to meet these demands if you are selected for this position?
