Position Overview

Under the direction of the Compensation Manager, the Compensation Analyst will perform activities associated with the development and administration of compensation programs and data analysis regarding the University workforce. This position will assist in providing guidance to managers and leadership regarding building and enhancing compensation structures that strengthen goals in recruitment, retention and promotional opportunities. Assists in the oversight of compensation reporting and compliance, including FLSA compliance. Works on projects related to people analytics to ensure workforce data is available and reported in a manner which can be easily interpreted by all levels within the organization. This is a remote position.

Job Description

Compensation Administration (50%)
  • Conducts base pay market analyses for entire job families and individual positions.
  • Analyzes and interprets salary survey data to make recommended modifications to salary structures and starting salaries.
  • Reviews existing required qualifications and makes recommended changes based on departmental, market, recruiting, or university needs.
  • Ensures all updates to job codes are reflected in HR/Pay, as well as the job title table on the HRM website.
  • Provides analytical support and data analysis on a variety of compensation requests and projects.
  • Provides support in reviewing recruitment exception requests and completing all related transactions related to the final decision.
  • Assists in salary structure review activities including but not limited to career growth design, alignment with industry changes, and salary review.
  • Assists in reviewing and evaluating staff positions to determine appropriate classification, FLSA exemption status, and required qualifications. Audit pay practices to ensure compliance with federal and state legislation applicable to wage and hour laws and regulations and internal pay policies; thoroughly document findings and recommend appropriate solutions for compliance.
  • Assists in reviewing the results from the University’s annual Affirmative Action Plans for each campus location. Works to analyze and address compensation matters with manager/leadership.
  • Assists in developing job evaluation and design plans by performing research into occupational characteristic and preparing and analyzing statistical data that reflect internal and external market considerations. Conduct job audits where applicable. Participates in organizational design activities as applicable.
  • Assists in developing and implementing direct and indirect reward and pay strategies to support assigned unit’s requirements.
Salary Survey Administration (25%)
  • Market prices jobs using a variety of surveys and data cuts to ensure market competitiveness.
  • Creates position compensation summaries to reflect how current employees align to market.
  • Updates MarketPay database monthly with the latest job and employee files.
  • Using the data analytics module, develop and create a variety of reports related to compensation, equity, and the overall workforce. Assist team in the design and management of information/analytics that provide supervisors with requisite information regarding salary administration, including salary equity reports, ongoing marketing comparative data, internal equity analyses, etc.
  • Participates in the annual salary survey participation process, including matching internal jobs to surveys and creating submission reports.
Communication and Training (20%)
  • Evaluates existing communications, webpages, and documentation and make recommendations for strengthening communications strategy.
  • Participates in developing and delivering compensation related training for supervisors and managers across campus.
  • Provide position description (PD) support to campus by writing new PDs, updating existing PDs, and ensuring PDs meet university standards prior to posting. Recommends corresponding titles and salary ranges and communicates recommendations to assigned units in a concise, customer focused format. Ensures all updated PDs are indexed into the system.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in compensation analysis.
  2. Experience using advanced Excel skills (e.g. v-lookups, h-lookups, pivot tables, slicers, etc).
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials, interviews and references.
  4. Experience working collaboratively with a team and other operating units in a customer facing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Three years of related HR experience in higher education with an expertise in compensation.
  2. Experience using HRIS software and web-based compensation systems (e.g. MarketPay, PayScale, PayFactors, etc.).
  3. Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws/regulations relating to compensation (e.g. FLSA - Fair Labor Standards Act).
  4. Progression towards a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation
  5. Demonstrated ability to analyze large amounts of information, discern patterns, compare results to legislation, past practice, compliance with policy, internal equity and make appropriate recommendations.
  6. Ability or experience in providing training or conducting conversations that impart compensation knowledge.
  7. Ability to build relationships with clients demonstrating a record of timeliness, trust, and integrity.
