Position Overview
KU Design Camp is a pre-college summer program offered to high school students who are entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year and are interested in Architecture or Design. Students learn in hands-on workshops taught by KU School of Architecture & Design faculty.
The Department of Design is hiring Resident Assistants to aid with camp logistics and activities, including eating meals with campers and staying overnight in the residence hall. Applicants must be available for the entirety of the camp, June 12–18, 2022. Several training sessions will take place prior to the start of camp.

Job Description
- Escort camp participants to and from Design Camp activities across campus.
- Eat meals with camp participants, facilitate evenings activities, and assist with camp functions as needed.
- Stay overnight in the residence hall during camp week to oversee camp participants.
- Respond to student issues, conflict concerns, and crisis situations.
- Demonstrate ethical conduct and encourage responsible behavior in others.
- Follow and enforce University, Housing, and Design Camp regulations and policies.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current KU Architecture or Design student enrolled in 6-credit hours either in the Spring 2022 semester or Fall 2022 semester.
- Must be at least 18-years old at the time of hire.
- Must be able to participate for the duration of the camp, including overnight stays, as well as attend training.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a camp counselor.
- Preference given to students in good academic standing within the School of Architecture and Design, at the Sophomore, Junior, or Senior level.

Advertised Salary Range
Minimum of $1,000 for the duration of camp and training time at $8.50/hour. Meals and housing provided during camp.
Work Schedule
Design Camp is held June 12–18, 2022. Training will take place prior to the arrival of campers.
