Position Overview

Are you an excellent editor who pays close attention to detail? Would you enjoy providing technical support to trainers and educators so that more students receive instruction in social-emotional learning? Do you like collecting and reviewing data to ensure virtual training and coaching are effective for teachers? Research Collaboration, a unit within the Center for Research on Learning, University of Kansas, is seeking a detail-oriented Editor to support a growing team of professionals who provide and evaluate virtual and face-to-face professional development for teachers. This position will provide support to key staff across multiple projects and requires high attention to detail, technology skills, and the ability to multi-task to effectively meeting competing deadlines. As an Editor, this person will improve copy and deliver consistent and effective messaging in a variety of formats, as well as support online training.

Job Description

  • 40% - Assist project directors and staff with editing articles, websites, documents, and reports for a variety of audiences. Provide both substantive editing and copy editing for a wide variety of educational projects for communication to varied target audiences. Communicate with authors to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • 20% - Provide technology support for virtual professional development workshops.
  • 15% - Summarize data for a variety of audiences by developing easy-to-interpret graphs, charts, and descriptive reports.
  • 10% - Create instructional videos for educators.
  • 5% - Create and manage Microsoft Excel spreadsheets with formulas to organize and analyze data.
  • 5% - Design surveys in Qualtrics and Google Forms with navigation logic and customized data displays.
  • 5% - Other administrative duties and special projects as needed.

Position Requirements

  1. The work location for this position is 704 J.R. Pearson Hall at 1122 W. Campus Rd., Lawrence KS.
  2. Valid driver’s license for occasional trips to Fed-Ex and the post office.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or relevant field and four years of related experience.
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by application materials, interview, and references.
  3. Experience using editing and formatting features of Microsoft Word and Excel, as demonstrated in application materials.
  4. Experience in environments that required both self-directed and collaborative work, as evidenced in work history.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Exemplary writing skills with the APA style.
  2. Experience utilizing Zoom or other virtual formats to facilitate collaboration and promote knowledge acquisition.
  3. Exemplary data collection and interpretation skills, including the use of formulas and logic with MS Excel, Google Sheets, and/or Qualtrics.
