Job Description

The Catalyst, a program of the KU School of Business Management and Entrepreneurship Area, is hiring students who have their own venture or are seeking to start a new venture and desire mentoring and other support. Students will meet with mentors and work through planning, marketing research and other resources related to their venture. During the mentoring process, The Catalyst students will build relationships and expand their networks. Students accepted to The Catalyst will work up to five hours a week during the Fall 2023 semester.

Students who are professional, responsible, and teachable are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will possess strong skills in communicating, listening, and project completion. Catalyst members represent the KU School of Business and will be respectful of mentor’s time and be responsive to mentor’s communications.

Job Duties
  • Develop workflow and schedule for venture.
  • Meet regularly to check on venture progress and prep for upcoming mentor meetings.
  • Provide feedback for the Catalyst to advance the program.
  • Must demonstrate tangible progress.
  • Must be able to provide and stick to a weekly schedule of availability for work hours.

Required Qualifications

  1. Must have an idea for a new venture – the venture itself does not have to be operating yet, but it could be.
  2. Must be able to meet with mentors.
  3. Demonstrates coachability.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  5. Must be a KU student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
During the semester term of the appointment, the KU student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated ability to follow through with ideas to completion.
  2. Evidence of strong people skills, including meeting new people and establishing new business contacts.
  3. Be available to attend additional networking events.
