Job Description
Research Help Specialists provide general and in-depth research assistance to library patrons both in person and via chat at the research help desks in Watson Library and Anschutz Library.
Required Qualifications
- Enrolled in six credit hours of graduate coursework or at least one hour of thesis/dissertation (approval form from graduate program required).
- One or more years of experience using library resources for academic research, including electronic resources (databases, ebooks, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant KU Libraries work experience and/or familiarity with KU Libraries resources, spaces, and services.
- Public service experience and/or customer service skills.
- Teaching and/or training experience.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.
Additional Candidate Instructions
Hours per week and weekly schedule: Work schedule may range from 8 to 20 hours per week, depending on individuals' availability and staffing needs; desk shifts are typically four-hour blocks between 9am and 5pm, though evening shifts may be available later in the semester. Graduate students can work up to 29 hours per week on campus, and GTAs are eligible to work as Research Help Specialists up to 9 hours per week.
