Job Description

Have fun while you earn money! Meet people from other countries and lead field trips!
International Short Programs Ambassadors will work with international program participants during their summer program at KU. Ambassadors will assist with orientation as well as with cultural and program activities scheduled for the group.

Examples of work performed include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Assisting with program preparations.
  2. Greeting participants at the airport.
  3. Assisting with mandatory pre-enrollment check-ins.
  4. Accompanying participants on cultural field trips to Topeka and Kansas City.
  5. Actively engaging participants and encouraging them to speak English.
  6. Driving a 12-passenger van on airport pick-ups or drop-offs, during orientation activities, or for cultural field trips.
  7. Facilitate guest speaker sessions.
  8. General office duties.

Required Qualifications

  1. Excellent command of English, as evidenced by interview.
  2. Must not be enrolled in Applied English Center courses.
  3. Undergraduate student at sophomore level or above or graduate student.
  4. Must have a 2.5 GPA or better.
  5. Must be available to work daytime, evening and weekend hours. This may include some middle of the night pick-ups and departures.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Recent prior full-time enrollment at KU for at least a year.
  2. The ability to work on short notice to meet changing program needs.
  3. Proficiency in a foreign language.
  4. Travel or residency abroad.
  5. Have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  6. Have a reliable car.
  7. Be a minimum of 21 years of age, preferred to be 25 years of age or older, due to requirements for driving 12-passenger rental vans.

(Candidates who cannot start before May 15th will not be ruled out.) Weekly work hours will fluctuate based on the needs of the programs. Ambassadors will work a minimum of 80 hours between the beginning of their employment and the end of the program in late July/early-August. Total hours could be more depending on availability and program needs. Hours will include daytime, evening, middle of the night and weekend hours. applicants must be available to work on weekends.
