Position Overview

The Transition Coalition provides training, information and professional development in a variety of formats and to a variety of audiences to improve outcomes for young adults with disabilities. We are known in our field for having quality information in multiple useable digitized formats provided through our website. The web developer is a critical role in co-creating a variety of online learning experiences for our audiences, ensuring clean, seamless design, and documenting for future need. This position will be the technical lead and is responsible for maintaining and updating the site, ensuring security measures are met, providing database design and management, and all programming. This position is perfect for someone with a creative flair who is detail-oriented, organized, and who can work independently and with a small team. It is a part-time position that can be half time to three quarter time based on project need.

Job Description

  1. 50% - Develop code, maintain and support software applications, implement and maintain databases, and user interfaces independently or in collaboration with others using a content management system (WordPress) based on PHP, MySQL, Javascript, CSS and other web languages using current web standards and with attention to security issues.
  2. 15% - Research and develop solutions to problems or as specified by functional needs of the project and notate accordingly.
  3. 10% - Collaborate with project staff, clients, other developers/designers and others to understand and contribute to project needs and maintain a broader view of the project and potential for growth.
  4. 10% - Ensure web application interfaces meet needs of various end users (e.g., teachers, staff website administrators, etc.) via user analysis testing and other means, and act as primary technical support for end-users.
  5. 5% - Communicate frequently with the Research Project Director to provide status reports, review GoogleAnalytics data, and conceptualize website features and adjustments.
  6. 5% - Maintain competency and detailed technical skills as they apply to work projects.
  7. 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. High school diploma/GED plus 5 years of relevant professional experience OR Associate’s Degree plus 3 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of relevant experience.
  2. Two years demonstrated professional experience with web development using HTML and CSS, including URLs provided as samples of work.
  3. Two or more years experience in customizing a content management system (CMS) using: PHP, MySQL, jQuery, as well as designing relational tables and performing complex queries using an SQL-based language.
  4. Experience incorporating effective user interface considerations and designs with web application development.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant experience developing web-based applications.
  2. Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical teams, content teams, clients and management including excellent writing skills.
  3. Experience producing technical documentation.
  4. Two or more years demonstrated experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar products.
  5. Strong time-management and organizational skills with a record of being reliable, flexible, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  6. Experience with online learning.
  7. Experience with and/or knowledge of the following:
    1. PHP
    2. WordPress (including customized backend PHP development)
    3. Responsive web design
    4. Application/web security
    5. Writing and maintaining documentation
    6. Javascript (including jQuery and/or Prototype)
    7. Apache
    8. Linux Administration
    9. Photoshop/Illustrator
    10. Version control software (e.g. GIT)
    11. GoogleAnalytics
    12. Python
