Jayhawk JumpStart Student Leader-Student Hourly
Position Overview
This position will serve as a Student Leader, during Jayhawk JumpStart week that will take place from August 13 through August 17, 2023. This position is expected to start August 10, 2023.
Job Description
Jayhawk JumpStart is an early access/move-in program that provides students with a FREE on-campus experience to enhance the transition to KU. It is available to incoming, first-time freshman who are students of color, First-Generation or Pell-eligible students, or members of certain scholarship programs.
The student leaders will lead, guide, and mentor students through sessions covering topics including:
- Finding friends and making campus connections.
- College basics, including expectations and faculty connections.
- Understanding values and how they connect to career outcomes.
- Academic skills for college.
- Using KU Technology.
- Well-being support and services.
- Time management, including balancing work, internships or shadowing.
- Managing money.
Required Qualifications
• Must be a full-time student in good standing as defined by KU
• Must be classified as a sophomore or higher by hours and years of attendance by the summer of 2023
• Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 at time of application and throughout term of employment

Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to communicate well, verbally and non-verbally as evident of application material
• Strong ability to present to various groups of individuals as evident of application material
• Demonstration of responsibility, positive attitude, confidence, flexibility, team orientation, strong interpersonal skills, and high energy
• Desire to learn about KU academic resources, policies, procedures, initiatives, and communities
• Work study eligible
• Personal experience overcoming barriers faced by first generation and low-income students as evident of application material
• Strong ability to present to various groups of individuals as evident of application material
