Position Overview
Student Money Management Services is a new program dedicated to improving KU students' financial situations by empowering them to analyze their finances, develop a budget, manage funds, make sound decisions, and commit to controlling their financial lives at KU and into the future. Student Money Management Services is responsible for providing financial literacy information to KU students through one-on-one sessions, class presentations, publications and educational outreach, websites, and other electronic communication methods.
Several Peer Educator positions will be available. Primary office hours will be 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with occasional evening hours required for presentations to student groups.

Job Description
The Peer Educator for the Student Money Management Services is responsible for assisting the Program Director in providing information to current KU students on managing personal finances, developing budgets, tracking expenses, understanding credit card and loan indebtedness, planning for life after graduation and appropriate referral to campus resources such as Financial Aid & Scholarships, Legal Services for Students, Bursar's Office and the School of Business Personal Finance. After appropriate training, responsibilities will include: give class and group presentations and working with students one-on-one. Peer Educators will also serve as office assistants, with general office duties, including answering phones, transferring calls, greeting guests and providing information about Student Money Management Services to callers and visitors to the office.
Required Qualifications
- Must meet KU minimum enrollment requirement of 6 credit hours for student employment.
- Must have sophomore status with 30 credit hours completed at the University of Kansas.
- Minimum 2.5 GPA.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of KU FIN 101-Personal Finance course or similar course.
- Understanding of financial aid and/or personal finance issues.
- Knowledge of KU Campus and the various campus offices.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Knowledge of computer programs including Word and Excel.
- Understanding of how to protect and maintain confidentiality.
