Position Overview

University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is comprehensive student support program designed to provide resources to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas and support the University's commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. Specifically, UASC supports the intellectual development of individuals by encouraging active participation both in and out of the classroom; coordinating services and programs in which students can acquire and practice life management, decision-making, and learning skills; and linking students to other resources that will help them learn these skills. UASC includes the Academic Learning Center, Academic Retention and Engagement Center, KU Writing Center, and Student Access Center.

The Student Access Center is a unit within the University Academic Support Centers that provides advocacy and support for students with academic accommodations as well as guidance for faculty in providing academic accommodations at KU.

Job Description

The primary responsibility in this position is to serve as an academic aide to assist students with disabilities in labs or classrooms.

Duties include but are not limited to serving as a laboratory aide, note-taking in the classroom, proctoring, scribing, and reading exams, physically manipulating objects, and assisting with live computer navigation and program usage for the student.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience using a variety of computer programs as evidenced by application materials.
  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Advertised Salary Range

12.25 per hour

Work Schedule

Hours vary according to workload but expect to commit to at least six hours per week during Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. work week.
