Position Overview
Sanders Scholars Award Provides Mentorship and Scholarship Opportunities for Students.
The Sanders Scholars program, created through a gift from William J. Crowe and Nancy P. Sanders, provides funding for graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Kansas to work with a librarian mentor.
The program has two main objectives:
At the end of the experience, the mentor and scholar will give a public presentation. In addition to gaining valuable experience, this is a great professional development opportunity that will look excellent on a resume.

- Give students the opportunity to learn about librarianship and consider it as a career path.
- Recognize librarians for mentorship efforts and encourage them to mentor students.

Job Description
Sanders Scholar will provide research support, peer-to-peer research consultations to library patrons both in-person at graduate programming in Watson Library and via email; Assist with assessments of new graduate focused libraries programing; Aid in developing guides or Open Educational Resources for graduate students doing scoping and literature reviews; and develop and give open workshops related tasks essential to evidence synthesis for other graduate students.
Required Qualifications
- Enrolled in six credit hours of graduate coursework or at least one hour of thesis/dissertation (approval form from graduate program required).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant KU Libraries work experience and/or familiarity with KU Libraries resources, spaces, and services.
- Public service experience and/or customer service skills.
- Teaching and/or training experience.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.
- One or more years of experience using library resources for academic research, including electronic resources (databases, e-books, etc.).
