Student Hourly
Position Overview
- This is a pool for student hourly undergraduate teaching assistants/peer tutors in the department of Psychology. Review of applications will be ongoing and hires will be made as needed throughout the posting period.
- Applications are due on January 2 (for the spring semester) and August 1 (for the fall semester) or by discretion of the course instructor.
Job Description
The undergraduate students selected for these positions will spend approximately 5-20 hours per week as part of the instructional team for psychology courses (hours will vary according to the schedule of the individual student). Their responsibilities will include:
Further training for these positions will be included during the biweekly instructional team meetings. This is an excellent opportunity to gain teaching skills, as well as develop and enhance leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Perform a wide range of duties dependent upon a unit's needs. However, such job responsibilities are not seen as critical to the completion of a graduate level degree. Must meet the enrollment guidelines as defined by the University and may be a undergraduate or graduate student.Standard hours of 1.00 is used for all positions. STN paygroup
- attending classes and assisting with in-class activities (30%)
- grading assignments for completion or with a grading key (30%)
- holding individual consulting hours for students who need extra help (20%)
- attend biweekly instructional team meetings for planning purposes (10%)
- complete other administrative duties as needed by the instructor (10%)

Required Qualifications
- Currently an undergraduate student enrolled in a degree program at KU
- Has achieved a B or better in the course the student would like to assist with.
- The candidate should be available to attend the course the student would like to assist with.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments). (MUST BE ON STUDENT REQ)
Preferred Qualifications
- Grade of "A" in course(s) to be taught
- Overall 3.25 GPA
- Federal Work Study eligible students preferred
