UASC Office Assistant - Federal Work Study Student Hourly POOL


Position Overview

University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is comprehensive student support program designed to provide resources to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas and support the University's commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students.

Specifically, UASC supports the intellectual development of individuals by encouraging active participation both in and out of the classroom; coordinating services and programs in which students can acquire and practice life management, decision-making, and learning skills; and linking students to other resources that will help them learn these skills. UASC includes the Academic Learning Center, Academic Retention and Engagement Center, KU Writing Center, and Student Access Center.

Job Description

As an Office Assistant, you will provide general office support to administrative assistants and professional staff in the University Academic Support Centers. You may be assigned to work in one or more Centers based on scheduling needs and your availability. Daily responsibilities include assisting office visitors, answering phone inquiries, responding to emails, assembling print materials, delivering mail across campus, managing the calendar and appointments of multiple professional staff, and assisting with special projects based on which Center you are staffing.

Work Schedule:
The UASC has two locations on the KU Lawrence campus, and depending on the location(s) you are assigned to, shifts are scheduled between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm on Monday-Thursday, and 8:00 am-5:00 pm on Friday. As an Office Assistant you must be available to work at least 10 hours per week, and your schedule is set for the semester dependent on location needs and your availability.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student at KU (enrolled in at least six hours).
  • Proven ability to work independently and efficiently as evidenced by work experience and/or coursework.
  • Experience with PCs and Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet.
  • Effective written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an office/customer service setting.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures, including experience with heavy volumes of phone traffic.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Commitment to supporting KU students in accessing UASC services, as evidenced by application materials and interview.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and be sensitive to the needs of those utilizing UASC services.
  • Experience with tabling events, information fairs, and clearly presenting information.
