Position Overview

**This position resides at the Fort Leavenworth Education Center and Marriot TownSuite in Leavenworth, KS.

The University of Kansas is seeking a full-time Student and Academic Services Manager to lead the educational site located in Leavenworth, KS. This position manages KU offices located on-base at Ft. Leavenworth Education Center and off-base at KU’s location at the Townplace Suites in Leavenworth, KS. This position will be responsible in managing all areas of student, academic and administrative services including student benefit support, classroom support and building management for these work locations. This position will serve as the primary information resource for students and partners affiliated with programs offered on- and off-base at Leavenworth and will work closely with KU departments, executive KU leadership, Ft. Leavenworth personnel and the Leavenworth community to achieve programmatic goals.

Job Description

40% Program Coordination
  • Lead the program management needs with academic program leadership for courses offered on- and off-base to include course scheduling, facilities usage, and service offerings.
  • Works strategically to implement programmatic development plans for Leavenworth offerings by working directly with department chairs and/or program coordinators to align program offerings with the student market at this location.
  • Lead communication strategy efforts related to website, prospective and current students, and KU constituents relevant to classes offered in Leavenworth.
  • Manages requests to KU Marketing for key program promotion and collateral (e.g., websites, recruitment material, open houses, ads, etc.) to increase enrollment in courses and programs offered.
  • Designs and conducts Leavenworth program assessment to implement strategic planning and student success efforts; collects student and enrollment data and prepares reports to formulate recommendations for continuance of courses, programs, and services based on statistical data.
  • Schedule all credit, non-credit and training courses being offered at the Leavenworth location.
40% Student Services Leadership
  • Supervise student services staff responsible for on- and off-base student support.
  • Manage and deliver student services provided to Leavenworth location students including determining student needs, communicating services available, and advising students on services, programs, financial aid and tuition assistance.
  • Oversee frontline support and resource referrals to all prospective and current Leavenworth students.
  • Lead the strategy, coordination, and delivery of student services opportunities to include working with registrar, bursar, admissions, career services, Military-Affiliated student services, international student services, graduate studies, academic success, financial aid, and other campus partners.
  • Manage a flexible service location that includes evening and weekend service hours on-and off-base relevant to the student population needs.
  • Supervise operations and instructor support required at a remote coursework delivery location.
  • Responsible for handling all student grievances and confidential matters. Works with Student Affairs when necessary for support.
  • Manages an educational site the adheres to all KU policies and procedures, including FERPA compliance.
10% Student Programming
  • Manage all student programming and events held at the Leavenworth location, such as Student and Faculty Appreciation Days, co-curricular programming, and other recognition events.
  • Develop relevant high-impact practices for Leavenworth students based on research and best practices for adult and military learners.
5% Scheduling and Site Relations
  • Schedule all credit, non-credit and training courses being offered at the Leavenworth location.
  • Manage scheduling/hosting rental opportunities for the Leavenworth location with outside entities.
  • Manage annual contract with Townplace Suites and serve as point-of-contact for hotel relations.
5% Other Duties as Assigned
  • Represent KU at meetings, events and other internal or external efforts.
  • Based on educational credentials, may teach in appropriate programs affiliated with Leavenworth.

Position Requirements

  1. This position requires working on-site at the Fort Leavenworth Education Center and Marriot TownSuite in Leavenworth, KS.
  2. This position requires working evening and weekend hours as needed.

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s OR bachelor’s degree plus five years related experience.
  2. Two years’ supervisory experience leading full-time staff.
  3. Three or more years’ experience managing programs, departments, major initiatives or external organizations.
  4. Effective written communications skills as demonstrated by resume and cover letter.
  5. Knowledge of Veterans Affairs benefits as demonstrated in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with Army Tuition Assistance process.
  2. Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions or other higher education student information systems.
  3. Experience with one-stop student services delivery.
  4. Public speaking experience.
  5. Experience with higher education student financials or student accounts.
  6. Knowledge of the Leavenworth/Lansing communities and surrounding areas.

Work Schedule

The work schedule for this position will coincide with student needs and traffic at the KU Leavenworth location with campus service hours of 9am – 7pm Mon-Thur and 8am – 5pm Fridays, including working evening hours regularly and weekends as needed.
