Position Overview

The School of Engineering at the University of Kansas is hiring for an Outreach Coordinator. This position will participate broadly in the student recruitment functions of the office. Responsibilities include the development, organization and coordination of on-campus engineering recruitment functions; coordination and assistance with selected outreach programs; and participation and collaboration in engineering recruitment events and programs beyond campus. The Outreach Coordinator will also serve as the primary point person for the School of Engineering’s application processes. This position will be located on-site at the Lawrence, KS campus with some evening and weekend work required.

Job Description

30% Recruitment and Recruitment Strategy:
  • Assist the Assistant Dean in the implementation of a comprehensive recruitment strategy including reviewing and analyzing data to determine the effect of on-campus visits, events, and programs. Current year data and enrollment management tools will be used, including Slate and Tableau, to identify, qualify, and target students who will assist the School of Engineering in meeting desired enrollment goals. Enrollment goals include, but are not limited to, increasing the diversity in engineering programs and increasing the matriculation of high-ability students
  • In collaboration with the off-campus recruitment coordinator, assist with college fairs, school visits, and engineering outreach programs
  • Consult with the Assistant Dean regarding recruitment strategies on topics including, but not limited to, the development of programs, recruitment strategies, publications and presentations
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and participate in Office of Admissions on-campus events, including but not limited to Senior Days, Junior Days, Rock Chalk Days, etc.
  • Organize prospective student mailing and additional recruitment promotional items
  • Interact with Pre-Engineering and Undecided STEM students at Orientation to assist with potential engineering interest and admission, or pathway to admission
  • In conjunction with the other recruitment staff members, coordinate email campaigns for recruitment cycle. This can include, but is not limited to, visit campaigns, exploring academic interest areas campaign, in-state scholarship campaign, and more. This coordination includes coordinating with Admissions to create live queries for admit letters and emails, “become admissible” emails, and more

30% On-campus Prospective Student Visits:
  • Oversee the daily scheduling of engineering individual appointments via Slate for the recruitment team
  • Meet with prospective students to discuss their academic interests and to share and feature relevant academic programs and facilities at the School with those student
  • Meet with prospective transfer students to discuss the transfer process to KU, outline useful incoming credits for their intended degree and connect them with their next steps
  • Coordinate prospective student shadow appointments

15% Admissions:
  • Oversee, track, and process admission decisions for the School of Engineering via ImageNow/Perceptive Content
  • Communicate application needs and decisions for the School of Engineering
  • Process, track, and communicate Change of School Applications for the School of Engineering

15% Event planning:
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Dean, plans, develops, executes and analyzes all on campus recruitment programs and events for prospective engineering students and their families. These include, but are not limited to, individual and group presentations, Engineering Open House, Engineering Scholars Day, industry events and other related School and University events throughout the school year

5% Engineering Ambassadors:
  • Oversees the recruitment, selection, training, programming, and scheduling of approximately 32 Engineering Ambassador Students
  • Assist IHAWKe program with their new ambassador training and tour shadow scheduling
  • Assist Self Program with their fellowship tour training

5% Summer Camp:
  • Assist as necessary with all aspects of the summer camp programs

Position Requirements

The candidate selected for this position must be willing to travel by automobile or plane to any city or region assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience
  2. Minimum of three months of presentation experience as evidenced by coursework, extracurricular activities, or professional presentations
  3. Valid driver's license at the time of appointment
  4. Strong written communication skills, as evidenced by application materials
  5. Strong oral communication skills, as evidenced in interview

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with effectively organizing time and tasks and work autonomously
  2. Experience with effectively working with diverse student populations, including low-income, first generation, geographic regions, ethnic groups, elementary school, middle school, high school and non-traditional students
  3. Experience in public relations activities or work in university admissions
  4. Experience in event planning
  5. Knowledge of engineering 6. Experience as a University of Kansas student

Advertised Salary Range

$41,299-45,000, commensurate with experience

Work Schedule
