Position Overview

The Plug KU is a student-led engagement and marketing team intended to connect underrepresented students to campus resources and points of contact. In addition, The Plug KU’s Instagram page (@theplug_ku) serves as a central platform for students to learn about “#plugapproved” events and activities across campus.

These positions will work under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Affairs. Work will largely be performed remotely.

Job Description

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Support the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Student Affairs Special Projects Graduate Assistant with projects related to supporting the engagement, success, and retention of underrepresented students.
  • Manage and coordinate the production of content for The Plug KU social media platforms.
  • Assist with the planning, marketing, and execution of The Connect.
  • Attend and participate in all related trainings, meetings, programs, and events.
  • Promote an environment of inclusion for all members of the KU campus community.
  • Report work hours and complete timesheets as directed by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  1. Must be in good academic standing and enrolled in at least 6 credits at the University of Kansas.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills.
  3. Basic competency in use of social media platforms and office computer software as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Available to work a maximum of 10 hrs. per week.
  5. Strong organizational and follow-through skills as skills as evidenced in the application materials and interview process
  6. Experience presenting information to groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working on diverse teams and in diverse settings.
  2. Proficiency with Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media platforms.
  3. Experience working with graphic design platforms.
  4. Strong commitment to addressing inequities within higher education for underrepresented students.
  5. Active connection to student groups or other campus initiatives related to diversity and inclusion.
  6. Strong self-starter who is able to take initiative and work independently.
