Position Overview

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Kansas invites qualified professionals with teaching experience to submit application materials for part-time and/or full-time, temporary and/or regular teaching positions. These are non-tenure-track members of the faculty whose primary role is instructional. Lecturers will be selected from this pool when positions to teach introductory mathematics classes become available. The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.

Job Description

Part-time lecturers are expected to teach up to six credit hours and full-time lecturers are expected to teach up to twelve credit hours, of undergraduate mathematics courses per semester as scheduled. They are expected to take their teaching responsibilities seriously and to strive for excellence in the classroom.

100% - Provide instruction for all class meetings. Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades. Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught. The lecturer should be available for reasonable appointments if a student cannot meet during scheduled office hours. Attend instructor meetings held by course coordinators and attend other mandatory department meetings. Adhere to departmental, college and university policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references
  1. Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field that has a strong math component. Include a copy of your transcript, if the degree has been obtained in the past 5 years.
  2. Previous Mathematics teaching experience at the college or university level.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous Mathematics teaching experience at the University of Kansas.
  2. Evidence or testimony regarding excellent teaching ability at the university level.
