Position Overview

The History of Art Department invites applications for part- to full-time or temporary or regular lecturer appointments. Applications will be reviewed and placed in a pool to be considered for teaching positions as needed. Successful applicants must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.

Job Description

100% - Depending on the need, teach course in designated area:
  • Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the lecturer must make arrangements for a substitute to teach class. Classes should not be canceled.
  • Provide instruction throughout the semester, usually 2.5 hours/week, one day a week.
  • Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades.
  • Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught.
  • Adhere to departmental, College, and university policies.

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:

Undergraduate level courses:
  1. Master's in History of Art or current enrollment as a doctoral student at the University of Kansas History of Art Department.
  2. Must have previous teaching experience at the university/college level or practical field experience.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of the History of Art course of interest.
Graduate level courses:
  1. Previous teaching experience in the University of Kansas History of Art Department.
  2. Ph.D. in History of Art or a related field and evidence of research productivity in the field of specialization is required for appointment to teach a course carrying graduate credit.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous teaching experience in the University of Kansas History of Art Department.
