Job Description

Student Hourly / Work Study position involving campus mail delivery and collection for the university, as well as assisting with KU Libraries mail packaging, processing, and daily duties. We are seeking students with availability to work our scheduled routes and routines Monday – Friday.

Duties include:
  • Delivery and collection of campus mail
  • Campus Mail packaging, processing, and delivery
  • Library mail packaging and processing, including computer documentation
  • Management of shipments to and from Watson Library (staging, loading & unloading of dock deliveries)
  • Transport of books between library locations
  • Delivery of copy paper to library offices
  • Collection of donated books
  • Assist units within KU Libraries (moving furniture and other items, & helping with other projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a good driving record as evidenced in the application materials.
  • Must be able to navigate stairs while carrying upwards of 50 pounds of mail.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours with the University of Kansas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with campus is a plus.
  • Reliability and punctuality are very important (adhering to the agreed-upon work schedule).

Additional Candidate Instructions

Hours per week and weekly schedule: The Mail Services office operates year-round on a Monday-Friday schedule. Semester schedules for student hires are set in coordination with existing workers’ available hours. Students generally work 10-20 hours per week in the Spring & Fall semesters, up to 40 hours per week in the summer and between semesters, working schedules that begin at 8:00am and/or at 1:00pm and run a minimum of two hours from those start times in order to complete mail routes and other daily duties. Some students work Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedules, some work Tuesday/Thursday schedules, and others work a variation of those schedules.
