Position Overview

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kansas seeks to fill a post-doctoral researcher or associate researcher position in theoretical high-energy physics. The experience of the candidate will determine whether the hire will be made as a post-doctoral researcher or an associate researcher.

Starting Date: January 1st, 2019.

Length of Appointment: Initial appointment is until August 31, 2020, with the possibility of renewal for one additional year subject to review and contingent on funding.

GENERAL DUTIES: Research in Theoretical High Energy Physics. The successful candidate will contribute in several aspects of the theoretical high energy physics group's research program.

Job Description

80% Serves as a postdoctoral researcher or associate researcher in the area of theoretical high energy physics. Participates in planning, designing and conducting research projects in the research area. Works independently or in collaboration with other groups or supervisor's group as desired.

20% Assesses trends in the research community and plans future research to optimize effectiveness. Analyzes and evaluates research information requiring significant knowledge of high energy physics. Present updates on ongoing research, writes and publishes reports on research progress, participates in group meetings.

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the required qualification and preferred qualification will be made through (1) records of accomplishments entered in CV, (2) description of research and education experience provided in the application materials, (3) references, and (4) publications as appropriate.

Required Qualifications for Postdoctoral Researcher:
  1. A Ph.D. in physics or related field by date of appointment.
  2. Potential for and/or evidence of scientific productivity as evidenced by application materials.
NOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD in hand. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an Acting basis not to exceed 6 months.

Required Qualifications for Associate Researcher:
  1. A Ph.D. in physics or related field by date of appointment.
  2. Three or more years of relevant experience working in a research setting at the post doctoral level as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications for Postdoctoral Researcher or Associate Researcher:
  1. Experience in high energy phenomenology with an expertise in collider or dark matter physics.
