Position Overview
This position is available at the synthetic chemical biology core facility, University of Kansas, Lawrence. Postdoctoral Researcher is to assist investigators using the core facility in its interdisciplinary studies involving the fields of organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and chemical biology.
Job Description
70% - 1. Responsible for performance of laboratory research in the area of organic synthesis. Synthesize target compounds including small molecules, peptides and fluorescent molecules. Purify and analyze products. Perform literature searches, manage data, and analyze experimental results. Reviews progress and evaluate results. Prepares, studies, and conserves scientific research materials.
10% - 2. Formulates research methods and suggests improvements for quality and may serve as part of a design team Identifies problems, recommends and implements solutions.
10% - 3. Literature searches and analysis of published data. Generation and review of experimental documentation including report generation, daily recording of experimental procedures and results generated by the individual in laboratory notebooks, as well as editing and preparation of manuscripts.
5% - 4. Maintain certain laboratory equipment and record keeping. Train other lab personnel on the proper use and care of specialized equipment, provide general assistance to other lab personnel.
5% - 5. Assure compliance with safety programs. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:
1. Ph.D. in organic chemistry or closely related field with educational background in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry and chemical biology and/or other related fields.
2. Two or more years experience with organic synthesis.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Publications in major peer-reviewed journals.
2. Experience in peptide synthesis
