Position Overview

The Center for the Advancement of Research on Eating Behaviors (CARE) Laboratory has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Research Scholar. Fellows will receive mentorship from Dr. Kelsie Forbush. This three-year position will emphasize research on eating disorders and obesity.

This position comes with an excellent benefits package and an annual $3,000 professional development fund for research-related materials and travel. There are also excellent opportunities for professional development seminars and workshops in collaboration with other University of Kansas post-doctoral scholars.

Post-doctoral fellows will help to coordinate a $1.7 million grant from the Department of Defense (DoD) designed to develop a transdiagnostic eating-disorder screening tool for use in military and veteran populations. In addition to the DoD grant, the CARE Laboratory has access to an outstanding array of clinical research opportunities, including, but not limited to: 1) a large longitudinal database of adults with eating disorders recruited from the community and 2) longitudinal dataset of over 30,000 patients with eating disorders who used the Recovery Record, Inc. mobile app.

Clinical opportunities include: providing on-campus and community-based outreach and training for eating disorders diagnosis and assessment; providing treatment using Guided Self-Help Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT-gsh) as a part of an ongoing research study; conducting diagnostic assessments for the DoD grant; and building mentorship skills by co-supervising PhD students. Beyond coordination of the DoD grant, there will be ample opportunities for independent and mentored research. Our Laboratory is recruiting participants for two pilot brain-imaging studies of women with bulimia nervosa and adolescents with anorexia nervosa in collaboration with the University of Kansas’ Hoglund Brain Imaging Center. Finally, our center has close relationships with numerous local and national eating-disorder treatment centers, including Children’s Mercy – Kansas City and Eating Recovery Center, making this an ideal setting for fellows who wish to establish an independent clinical-research career.

The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.
