Position Overview
The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kansas is currently accepting applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to work on the development of systematic data-driven methodology to inform reduced-order models (ROMs) for turbulent combustion closures from direct numerical simulations (DNS). This work will be performed under the supervision of Dr. Cheng Huang.
Applications for postdoctoral researchers will be reviewed for consideration for a one-year research position (with possible extension based on performance and availability of funding). Ideal candidates are expected to have in-depth expertise in one or more of the areas below:

Job Description
45% Develop Reduced-Order Modeling framework and methodology to inform turbulent combustion closures from the DNS data.
40% Conduct DNS of turbulent reacting flow problems.
10% Assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
5% Help develop externally funded research programs.

Position Requirements
On-site work required at University of Kansas Lawrence Campus
Required Qualifications
Candidates will be evaluated on the candidate’s research experience and communication skills, as evidenced by (i) a resume and cover letter, (ii) prior research publications and/or patent applications, (iii) references, and (iv) interview by videoconference.
- Ph.D. in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related discipline
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated coding skills with programming languages like Fortran, C, and C++
Preferred Qualifications
- Substantial experience working with CFD of turbulent reacting flow and data-driven modeling methods.
- Experience in mentoring other researchers (typically at the undergraduate or master’s level)
- Novel research proposal development, presentation, and execution, including evaluating and summarizing the state-of-the-art in a particular area.
