Position Overview

Under general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Aide will perform routine assignments requiring technical application. Primary responsibilities will include (a) taking care of mice, tail cutting, genotype by PCR, mice organizing mice database, split cage, collect samples, prepares research equipment, run routine experiments including DNA preparation and genotype by PCR. Finally, other experiments and tasks as assigned. Prefer BA in a science field.

Job Description

85% Perform lab experiments, analysis, documentation, and reporting including:
  1. Keep transgenic mice lines, code ID with ear tag, collect samples for research project,
  2. Run routine experiments including gel preparation, DNA isolation, and PCR genotype
  3. Keep accurate records of experiments performed, tissue samples, and database update
  4. Prepares research equipment
  5. Maintain lab stores of common reagents and stock record
10% Lab support activities which include:
  1. Provide technical direction to other lab members.
  2. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
5% Other experiments and tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Science field (Bio/Chem/Phys) with one year of experience or High school/GED and 3 years related experience
  2. Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner in accordance with regulations.
  3. Ability to follow instructions and be able to pay close attention to details and adhere to instructions.
  4. Ability to work with animals (mice).
  5. Good organizational skills as evidence by application materials and prior work experience.
  6. Background with molecularbiology for DNA isolation and PCR

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefer 6 month to one year previous laboratory technician experience and handling animals.
2. Proven ability to communicate effectively and to work well with others in a laboratory environment.
