Position Overview

The School of Business seeks a research analyst to provide research and analysis support. This position will report to the Principal Analyst. The ideal candidate will be resourceful and able to effectively work both collaboratively and independently. They will have strong communication and organizational skills, completing tasks that require significant attention to detail. A learning mentality is desirable—an interest in expanding upon existing skill sets, learning new technical skills, and participating in informal and formal learning opportunities is strongly preferred.

This is a full-time, 12-month, staff position and is currently designated as an on-campus position. Alternative and flexible work schedules will be evaluated as per KU policy and School guidelines. Job Description

75% Data Analysis and Decision Support: Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Prepare and analyze quantitative and qualitative studies across a spectrum of areas (e.g., enrollment, financial/costing, and research analyses; salary studies, etc.) including design, data validation, and performing tests of reasonableness.
  • Utilize multiple technology applications including data visualization tools to collect and/or analyze data and to prepare/present results.
  • Collaborate with School leadership, faculty to leverage data relevant to the School’s strategic priorities.
  • Use institutional business intelligence tools to design, create, and disseminate data findings to internal and external constituents.
  • Extract and transform administrative data using SAS software.
  • Answer questions by developing research methodology, gathering data, and using appropriate analytical techniques

25% Reporting and related duties:
  • On a regular or ad-hoc basis, compile, design and maintain reports to meet the analytical needs of School leadership
  • Develop, utilize and maintain internal databases that support report production consumed by School leadership and decision-makers
  • Communicate, convey, and visualize findings in a manner that “tells the story” to diverse campus stakeholders who have a wide variety of backgrounds and interests
  • Provide complex and specialized information to aid the School in monitoring, awarding, and posting student scholarships
  • Serve as active member of School of Business staff by attending school staff and faculty assembly meetings.
  • Participate in school and university wide committees and groups as requested.
  • Complete other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or associate’s degree and two years of related experience or a high school diploma and four years of related experience.
  2. Experience programming, developing reports and conducting analyses using SAS, SQL, SPSS, or other similar statistical software package.
  3. Experience working with relational databases.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  5. Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent communication skills as presented in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree
  2. Minimum 3 years professional experience in a higher education setting.
  3. Familiar with administrative structure, policies and procedures within professional schools at KU.
  4. Experience with visual analytics software such as Tableau or SAS Visual Analytics.
  5. Experiencing conducting, analyzing, and presenting research to inform policy development.
  6. Prior work experience that required strong attention to detail.
  7. Experience working independently and in a team environment.
