Position Overview

University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is comprehensive student support program designed to provide resources to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas and support the University's commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. Specifically, UASC supports the intellectual development of individuals by encouraging active participation both in and out of the classroom; coordinating services and programs in which students can acquire and practice life management, decision-making, and learning skills; and linking students to other resources that will help them learn these skills. UASC includes the Academic Learning Center, Academic Retention and Engagement Center, KU Writing Center, and Student Access Center.

The Student Access Center is a unit within the University Academic Support Centers that provides advocacy and support for students with academic accommodations as well as guidance for faculty in providing academic accommodations at KU.

Job Description

The primary responsibility in this position is to create and ensure timely delivery of textbooks and other reading materials in accessible formats (e.g., electronic text, large print) for KU students with print disabilities. This position may also proctor exams both in person and online.

Scanning textbooks and other reading materials, conversion of materials to Microsoft Word, PDF or other formats as needed. Appropriately editing and tagging documents to maximize readability by screen readers or other text-to-speech technology. Proctoring exams and providing back-up for other exam proctors.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours at KU.
  • Prior experience working independently.
  • Prior experience with technology including using computers, scanning documents, and troubleshooting software applications.
  • Must have prior work experience that required excellent attention to detail.

Advertised Salary Range

$11.00 with potential to increase with experience and skill mastery.

Work Schedule

Hours vary according to workload, but expect to commit to at least 10 hours per week during a Monday-Friday, 8-5 work week.

Hours may increase and/or include occasional evening shifts when proctoring exams.
